The Bloc Elevates Jennifer Matthews to CEO and President
NEW YORK, April 17, 2019 (Newswire.com) - The Bloc, one of the largest independent health creative agencies, is proud to announce the promotion of Jennifer Matthews to CEO and president. Founding partners Susan Miller Viray and Rico Viray will assume the respective positions of chairman of The Bloc and chairman of The BlocPartners, our global network.
“Our decision to elevate Jennifer was based on The Bloc’s pivotal 2018 performance. In a year when we were braced for the worst, she rallied the entire agency with her grit, passion and integrity to embrace change and transform ourselves for sustainable growth,” said Miller Viray. With a pitch rate of over 80 percent, The Bloc added 16 new clients and more than $20 million of projected new revenue in 2019.
In her 12 years at The Bloc, Matthews helped change the agency by building on its solid HCP creative foundation and adding best-in-class consumer, payer and digital/omnichannel practices. “Looking back, The Bloc has been in a constant state of evolution driven by our entrepreneurial spirit,” said Matthews. “Today, we are uniquely positioned as the only independent agency with the diversity of talent, global network and scale of services of a holding company — without the holding company.”
During Matthews’ tenure, The Bloc has grown over 240 percent. The NYC FiDi office houses General Medicines, Oncology/Rare Disease, Value Builders Access, Consumer and Health Technology business units. BlocSky and BlocSource — two innovative client value-centric programs delivering world-class creative work — are directed from New York and executed outside the United States. Manila-based BlocSky has delivered significant savings and creative, scientific and regulatory excellence for over five years. Lastly, The Bloc established a West Coast presence in 2018 to service two industry-leading clients in San Diego.
With Matthews at the helm of The Bloc, Miller Viray and Viray are focused on reintroducing The Bloc and The BlocPartners to clients and talent. “We’ve proven our ability to launch U.S. and global brands such as Gilenya, Eliquis and Farxiga,” said Viray. “We are now in the middle of significantly expanding our global capabilities and coverage with new like-minded partners. So if you haven’t worked with (or for) The Bloc and The BlocPartners, it’s our job for you to get to know us.”
