The Charm of Kate Diggles' Naive Figurative Art at Agora Gallery

Kate Diggles is a contemporary artist who explores the inner child that lies within every adult.

Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature Australian artist, Kate Diggles, in Out from Down Under & Beyond: Fine Art from Australia and New Zealand. The exhibition is scheduled to run from May 12, 2011 through June 1, 2011 (opening reception: Thursday, May 12, 2011).

About the Artist
In her simply sophisticated and deceptively naive drawings, Kate Diggles creates a delightfully contemporary yet refreshingly primitive vision sure to amuse and inspire. Focused on subtle and sometimes tense connections between her endearingly odd characters, she draws upon memories, human nature, and her career in Occupational Therapy as she presents the angular features and forms which fill her surfaces. The humorously intriguing relationships ingrained in the strong lines of the art speak to the child within the viewer. In classic cars, trains, aircraft and other vehicles these dapper men and women engage in private dialogs. Working in chalk pastel on paper, Diggles' use of the medium gives her works a sense of immediacy. As she designs each piece to enhance their environment, the artist encourages viewers to enjoy her works for what they are and avoid taking life too seriously.

Largely self-taught, Kate Diggles has built a strong following in recent years with exhibits throughout Brisbane, Australia where she currently lives and works.
