The CityKids Foundation's Repertory Company Invited To Perform At The 2011 Audelco Awards

The CityKids Foundation's Rep is proud to announce its participation at the 2011 Vivian Robinson/Audelco Recognition Awards for Excellence In Black Theatre held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at the prestigious Harlem Stage Theater.

New York, NY- The CityKids Foundation's Repertory Company (Rep) is proud to announce its participation at the 2011 Vivian Robinson/Audelco Recognition Awards for Excellence In Black Theatre held on Monday, November 14, 2011 at the prestigious Harlem Stage Theater. This year's Rising Star Award will go to The Lion King Broadway star Eden Sanaa Duncan-Smith, who made her Broadway debut in the 2010 Tony Award-winning revival of Fences (starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis). The Academy Award nominated actor and Audelco Award winner Samuel L. Jackson currently starring in The Mountaintop, on Broadway and wife, the prolific performer (Sleepless In Seattle, Malcom X) LaTanya Richardson Jackson are serving as Honorary Co-Chairpersons for this dynamic event.

Rep is a critically-acclaimed performance company made up of diverse young people, ages 13 -19, from all over the New York metropolitan area. Rep adds instant energy to school assemblies, community events, conferences, and festivals with engaging and entertaining live performances. Recent performances include a guest appearance in Disney's Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra Special (which aired nationally on the Disney Channel), halftime at a New York Knicks Game, and a stop on Oxygen Media's National Tank Tour.

For the past 39 years Audelco has promoted and celebrated African-American involvement in American Theatre. The Vivian Robinson/Audelco Awards known as the "VIV" has become the preeminent recognition for African-American Theatre Artists. "Certainly we are elated to receive this invitation to perform," said Moises Belizario, Artistic Director, The CityKids Foundation, "more importantly this experience will serve as an outlet to showcase our SafeSpace model of service using the arts to encourage creativity and celebrate excellence!"
