The Cost Of Fashion

What would women sacrifice to get their hands on the latest fashion item? Recent research, by lip balm brand Lypsyl®, revealed that despite the economic climate, fashion is clearly still a top priority for women around the country.

Despite the economic climate, fashion is clearly still a top priority for women around the country. Recent research, by lip balm brand Lypsyl®, revealed that almost half of UK women would cancel all social engagements for a month or take on an extra job in order to afford the latest fashion must-have.

The research1 highlighted a small number of fashion conscious females who showed their true morals by admitting they would sell their boyfriend's CDs, computer games or favourite clothes (8%) to raise the cash for this seasons 'it' bag. Even more shockingly, 5% of Scottish shopping addicts claimed they would steal their child's pocket money to keep up with the latest trends!

The handbag still proves to be the most sought after fashion accessory, according the Lypsyl® research, with two thirds choosing it as the fashion item they could not live without and a quarter admitting to owning five to six of them.

With fashion clearly still on everyone's lips, Lypsyl® has launched its first fashion competition, offering one up-and-coming designer from the UK's top fashion schools the chance to win a £1000 bursary by putting their creative skills to the test. The Lypsyl® Fashion Competition invites fashion students from around the country to design a garment or accessory that encompasses the young at heart, retro and friendly feel of the brand that has been protecting lips for over 30 years.

The competition with be judged by a panel of leading industry experts, which includes top designer, Ben de Lisi and influential fashion blogger Laetitia Wajnapel (Mademoiselle Robot).

Ben de Lisi commented: "I am pleased to be involved in this project and be part of an initiative that celebrates and supports the UK's young designers. Being a designer is instinctive, you should be able to look at anything and be inspired. My three words of advice for student's looking for success in the world of fashion would be....hunger, hunger hunger! I am really looking forward to seeing the students' Lypsyl® inspired creations."
