The Easily Applied IV Protector

The Easily Applied IV Protector allows IV patients to shower without apprehension or risk of IV dislodgement.

For those with an IV, showering and bathing can be a stressful experience. Not only is there is the fear of getting the site wet, but also of dislodging the IV, which results in repeated venous IV punctures. A new product, the IV Protector gives waterproof protection and also prevents the IV from becoming dislodged. A disposable plastic sheath or sleeve, the IV Protector, is designed to slip over the arm of a patient allowing him or her to shower without apprehension or risk of IV dis-lodgement. Besides the health care setting, the IV Protector is also a valuable tool for patients receiving IV antibiotics at home.

The IV Protector is a sterile, medical-grade thermoplastic polymer plastic sheath or tube. It slides over a patient's arm, protecting and securing an IV access point or port while he or she showers or bathes. Flexible and waterproof, it is equipped with an elastic seal at both ends. These elastic fittings on either end of the tube have a fold-over, adhesive-backed, peel-n-stick gasket to ensure a watertight seal. Produced in small, medium, large, and extra-large sizes, the IV Protector is individually sealed and sold in multi-unit packs. Televised test marketing has been completed indicating an exceptional consumer response to the IV Protector.

The Patent Pending IV Protector was invented by a registered nurse, Patricia Jordan of Queens, NY, who said, “The easily applied IV Protector lets patients with an IV port bathe and shower with confidence, not apprehension. The IV Protector keeps the IV connection clean and dry and also prevents it from becoming dislodged. Patients should appreciate this because it would mean fewer IV needle insertions. The IV Protector provides a much needed and comfortable alternative to the method currently used when trying to protect IV sites.”
