The Event Hire Industry Set For Big 2012

2012 sees the world's largest sporting event, possibly the world's largest event, come to the United Kingdom for the first time since 1948 and this represents a huge opportunity for the UK event hire industry.

Marquee hire companies are one sector that will see a significant opportunity laid on by the hosting of the games. This can be seen in hiring of temporary structures for official Olympic events, unofficial Olympic events and even events that are hosted by the marquee companies themselves.

Although marquees and temporary structures are hired out seven days of the week in some cases - the majority of private non commercial events traditionally associated with the marquee industry - weddings, garden parties, Christenings and birthdays - usually happen on the weekend. Although with the cost of weddings continually increasing, a trend towards Friday and even mid-week ceremonies is certainly noticeable.

Corporate events, markets, festivals and conferences all often take place during the working week - so this isn't something new to marquee hire and other events companies - but this type of hire is one that clever event companies can really make the most of during the Olympics and Paralympics.

"One way that this opportunity can be utilised is by speaking to local councils and seeing what they are arranging for the Olympic events in their area." Explains owner of Marquee Hire Guide. "They may already have a supplier they are going to use - but by making contact in this way the event company may be sowing a seed that hadn't already been thought of - which could lead to a potentially lucrative hire." He adds.

One thing that event hire companies will need to think about if taking on extra work over this period (or any period) is the management of stock. Making sure there is enough of each product available when and where it is needed is something that comes with experience and good management. But it is clear that extra equipment will be hired out over the summer of 2012 - this can be seen by the claim that Glastonbury Festival is taking a break during 2012 due to the lack of portable toilets available to hire because so many are allocated for the games.

In addition to the cities and areas actually hosting official sporting events - London 2012 have announced there will be 22 cities across the UK with "Live Site" big screens. These cities include Bristol, Manchester, Belfast, Edinburgh, Norwich and 17 others. Obviously all of these screens will need to be serviced by event hire companies - things like mobile bars, portable toilets, generator hire, etc will need to be provided and this offers a fantastic opportunity for companies across the UK.

As well as official "Live Sites" the Olympics do offer a unique opportunity for marquee hire companies especially, but for other types of hire companies as well, to stage their own events. Smaller towns and villages could host mini "live sites" as a focal point for their local community - and either charge entrance, make money through drinks or use it as marketing exercise to potential local future customers.
