The Film Detective Celebrates Five Years, and Makes a New Year's Resolution to Add More Classic TV in 2019
Additions include Betty White's Life with Elizabeth, Buddy Ebsen in Northwest Passage and Classic Toon Popeye — just in time for his 90th birthday.
ROCKPORT, Mass., December 27, 2018 (Newswire.com) - The Film Detective, a classic film and television company that restores and distributes vintage films for today’s cord cutters, is ringing in the New Year by adding over 100 new television episodes to its app from years past.
Having just celebrated its 5th anniversary, The Film Detective is proud to have secured a library of over three thousand vintage titles, many of which have been restored into HD. Currently boasting over 300 episodes from television series such as Bonanza, Annie Oakley, Dragnet, Suspense, Howdy Doody, and more, The Film Detective is excited to continue to expand this category in 2019. Newcomers to the app include Northwest Passage, an action-adventure series which follows the fictional Major Rogers and his men, who fight for the British during the French and Indian War. The show stars Keith Larson as the fearless Major Robert Rogers, and co-stars Buddy Ebsen as Sergeant Hunk Marriner, as a member of Rogers’ band of do-gooders.
Also arriving in January is Dinah Shore: The Chevy Show, a variety series where star power meets car power. Airing from 1956 – 1965, and sponsored by the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors, the show stars Dinah and guest stars in musical numbers, skits, and performances; every episode capped off with Dinah’s featured song, “See the USA in your Chevrolet.” Guest stars include Carl Reiner, Van Johnson, and comedian George Burns, amongst others.
The New Year will also see the addition to the TFD app of Four Star Playhouse — an anthology series which originally aired on CBS in 1952 and features stars such as Charles Boyer, David Niven, Ida Lupino, Dick Powell, Franchot Tone, and more. Fans can expect thirty episodes of this fourteen-time Emmy nominated show including “A Championship Affair” (1954), “Broken Journey” (1955), and “The Last Voyage” (1953) — which took home the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television at the 1954 Directors Guild of America, USA Awards.
The Film Detective will also be adding episodes of Betty White’s Life With Elizabeth in honor of the Emmy-winner’s 97th birthday on the 17th. The show was White’s first starring television role, and co-stars Del Moore as her on-screen husband, in this sitcom about the daily lives of suburban newlyweds. Joining Betty on the 17th is Popeye the Sailor, who is turning 90-years-old and is greeting fans with thirty cartoon shorts including “Gopher Spinach” (1954), “Greek Mirthology” (1954), and “Out to Punch” (1956). The new Popeye episodes are just the first wave of new content from The Film Detective’s recent partnership with VCI Entertainment. The Film Detective expects to see a migration of content to its app from its recent venture with VCI Entertainment, Kit Parker and Independent International Pictures in the coming months.
