The Firm DC Supports the House of Ruth with The Vagina Monologues

DC group raises funds and hope for local shelter with a production of Eve Ensler's famous play

The Firm DC, a creative collective of friends and colleagues in the Washington, DC area, is pleased to announce its support of the House of Ruth, a local women's shelter, with a production of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, as a part of the international movement V-Day 2011.

The Vagina Monologues is a collection of true stories from real women who experienced tales of joy and sorrow, sadness and humor. A play consisting only of monologues read by a number of local actresses, the recurring theme focuses on the vagina as a tool of female empowerment, and the ultimate embodiment of female individuality.

"It's more than just a production; this is a movement to support the House of Ruth and women around the world" said Emily Coccia, Director of The Firm DC's Vagina Monologues. "We hope to celebrate women, and raise awareness for critical issues important to us and our communities.

Founded in 1976, House of Ruth helps women, children and families in greatest need to build safe, stable lives and achieve their highest potential. At House of Ruth, women, children and families heal from lifetimes of traumatic abuse.

"With the 2010 production, The Firm DC raised nearly $3,000 in support of the House of Ruth and the V-Day Organization," said Coccia. "This year with a cast of women, all doing amazing things around Washington, DC, we aim to top that and bring an end to violence against women by celebrating the strength of the human spirit through this production."

The Firm DC will host The Vagina Monologues on Friday, April 1, 2011, at Theater J at the DCJCC.
