The First Himalayan Salt Cave Has Opened In Tennessee

Dr. Margaret Smiechowski, North America's foremost expert on Himalayan salt, is pleased to announce the opening of her latest salt cave creation just outside of Nashville in Nolensville, TN.

Owned by Deana Tyler and Nancy Linder, the "Serenity Salt Cave" opened on Nolensville Road in Nolensville earlier this month after an exciting design and building period. Tyler first witnessed the healing benefits of Himalayan salt caves after her mother was diagnosed with a serious illness that required chemotherapy. In between chemotherapy sessions, Tyler's mother visited a Himalayan salt cave in Pennsylvania and noticed a dramatic reduction in the chemotherapy side effects and experienced an amazing recovery. After seeing the benefits of the use of salt, Tyler and her business partner decided to open their own cave, and consulted with Smiechowski in its design.

"The Tennessee cave has some things in common with other caves I have designed," says Smiechowski, "but it has some brand new elements that make it a one-of-a-kind. With thousands of pounds of Himalayan salt, the decor includes beautiful wood elements. But the most exciting part of this project is the custom-made, state-of-the-art climate control system."

Visitors to the Tennessee cave can sit in the climate-controlled comfort of zero-gravity chairs at the first cave of its kind in Tennessee. A 45-minute session in the cave costs just $30; after the session, customers can shop in the salt-themed retail store to bring the salt cave experience home. Visitors can also experience a yoga session in the salt cave itself.

Research on the benefits of Himalayan salt is conducted regularly in Russia, China, and Poland, and has supported the belief that speleotherapy, the clinical use of salt, is highly beneficial for the respiratory system. In other parts of the world, Himalayan salt therapy is used for a wide variety of medical purposes, but salt caves like these in the United States are hailed for their relaxation benefits.

"It's the high mineral content that makes the caves so beneficial," says Smiechowski. "The Himalayan salt contains every mineral that the human body needs. Visitors breathe in the minerals and feel the benefits after just a few minutes."

Smiechowski built her first salt cave in 2007 at the Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center in Rutland, Vermont, and has built many additional caves around the country. She is known for innovative designs that combine the most recent technology with the healing benefits and beauty of the pink salt.

"Every cave that Dr. Margaret designs is a work of art on its own, in addition to the amazing wellness benefits it provides," says Dr. William Kelley, owner of the Pyramid Holistic Wellness Center that houses Smiechowski's original, recently upgraded creation.
