The Foundation for Hope and Health in Haiti is Embarking on a Major Project to Improve Maternal and Infant Mortality in Haiti

Uniondale, New York, November 17, 2016 (Newswire.com) - The Foundation for Hope and Health in Haiti is embarking on a major project to improve maternal and infant mortality in Haiti.

The Foundation of Hope and Health in Haiti (FHHH) is pleased to announce it has received a $661,000.00 grant through the generous sponsorship of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF).  The goal of this grant is to address the unacceptably high maternal and infant mortality rates in the communities of Ile a Vaches and Carries where 90% of women deliver at home without the assistance of healthcare professionals.

These funds will support the Foundation’s project to improve the maternal infant mortality rates in these communities by establishing a comprehensive prenatal, natal and postnatal program for women with no such access. In addition to providing access to quality prenatal care, our project will provide training, birthing kits, and the proper tools to the local traditional birth attendants, so that they are able to perform safe and more sanitary home deliveries.

We will provide postnatal care to all mothers and babies. Most importantly, we will encourage the birth attendants to refer women to deliver in our facilities assisted by qualified doctors or nurse midwives.  Deliveries assisted by trained healthcare professionals have been found to have the most positive affect in reducing maternal infant mortality.
