Online, April 11, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Phil's Diner will reopen its doors for business on April 20 after 12 years of non-operation. In 1998, Casey Hallenbeck, a Set Decorator in the Motion Picture & Film industry for 32 years, purchased the diner for the love of the architecture and he has been the guardian of this little piece of North Hollywood history ever since. Malissa Hallenbeck came on to the project three years ago and has an MBA in Sustainable Management. So together they worked closely with the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency and the developer JH Snyder Company to bring life to the diner once again.
The diner was restored under the supervision of Robert Chattel, Historic Preservationist Architect who is a local as well. This was a tremendous feat given the many obstacles, limitations on space, and red tape, bureaucratic hurdles. City Councilman Tom LaBonge has been exceptionally helpful and he has continually supported efforts to get the diner up and running as soon as possible. Now it's here!
Sustainability is a primary focus of the operation so food is sourced locally and organically. You will be happy to know that the meat served at the diner comes from humanely treated animals that are grass fed and free range. Take out containers are compostable and our trash is primarily food waste and recyclables. Phil's Diner Fresh-n-Fast business concept is based on the current movement toward a healthier fast food option. The new concept is one that Malissa and Casey like to call "transitional" because they believe businesses like Phil's Diner Fresh-n-Fast are key pieces to shifting society toward more sustainable living and business operation.
Best of all, Phil's Diner brings back its All American Menu!
The diner is a blending of the old and the new in many ways, which is reflected in. the architecture, the business concept and in the menu. The menu is simple but has a little something for everyone. Greasy spoon items like chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy are on the menu for the die-hard diner lovers. Salads, sandwiches and vegetarian options are available for the health-conscious patrons. And for those that want to stop in before work, breakfast starts at 6am. Stop by for a beer and a burger or just a glass of wine in the evening and enjoy the patio seating in front of the diner.
