The Hovde Foundation Expands Its Impact to Honduras
MADISON, Wis., February 28, 2019 (Newswire.com) - Two remodeled buildings make up the new Hovde House in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras, opening its doors to children coming from abandonment, family violence, and other dangerous situations.
“We are excited about the impact this project will have in Western Honduras. At the same time, we hope that this kind of support also opens doors to others to invest in Honduras to defend and restore hope to children and families in need,” says Nicole Bice, Hovde Foundation’s Executive Director.
This new Hovde House, which began its construction in late 2017, was possible thanks to our local partners in Honduras, Legacy of Hope Foundation. The two updated buildings forming the Hovde House are now being used by Legacy of Hope’s foster care and emergency shelter programs. Being the only resource of its kind in the area, they can now serve up to 40 children a day which doubles their housing capacity from previous years.
With an investment of over $300,000, the two buildings include 5 bedrooms for children, 1 bedroom for caregivers and babies, an administration room for Child Services, 2 family style living rooms, a new cistern to upgrade the current water storage capacity, an upgraded backyard with a playground, as well as 2 new activity rooms that will serve for sensory activities to help children heal from their trauma.
"Every child that is placed with us receives new clothes, hygiene products, personal items, and high-quality care that includes medical checkups, balanced meals, treatment plans, and interventions if necessary. Our number of children served increases each year and last year it was nearly doubled. God knew the growth we would experience, and the blessing of Hovde’s partnership was an answered prayer,” says Marianne Irwin-Spangler, Legacy of Hope's In-Country Director.
“More children will now have a safe haven from injustice and violence that guarantees their well-being and happiness. This is a place they can call home until they are relocated to a safe environment with a loving family,” says Steve Hovde, Hovde Foundation’s Trustee.
