The Independent Family Caterer Still Serves Best

For true and authentic hospitality it's the small independent operator that still rules the roost.

For the best authentic offering, it’s reported today that the small independent foodservice operations are the best choice for consumers. This research and more form part of an upcoming book ‘The changing Face of Hospitality’ authored by Joas Serugga the CEO of Quick Buffet U.K.

There is increasing evidence that that the economy is improving and what follows with it is growth in food service operations new and existing. This is unsurprising in many ways as the service industry in the western world almost always accounts for over 75% of these economies and growing. Lifestyles are also continuing to improve and change at the same time. At the centre of improving lifestyles is the re-emerging trend in dining out experience. For consumers after an authentic hospitality experience, the small independents have it in abundance than the large chain operators

"What we're witnessing is a rebirth of sorts in the hospitality sector. At Quick Buffet, part of our job is to help those businesses with an authentic offering at the start-up stage get off to a great start," says Joas Serugga, CEO and Founder Quick Buffet, the U. K's caterers' market place.

The home kitchens have been known for churning out some of the best authentic offerings currently going, from the independent coffee shop on the high street to the high flying city centre offerings of celebrity chefs turned entrepreneurs. Research also show that most are driven purely by the love for food, a change in career, or indeed just the desire to spend more time with family. And because most entrants into the sector are not driven by the huge profits associated with the large high street operations, it’s easier to deliver a high quality and authentic service without taking any of the lustre away from their offering. The large operators are heavily reinventing themselves in ‘role plays’ which can only go as far as the employees’ love for their jobs.

Authenticity is being driven right from the home kitchens with mums and grand mums, or to put it simply, the family values at the centre of it. The flexibility the foodservice sector gives means the foodservice is by large female and that’s not to forget the huge numbers influenced by the female family members back at home. Consumers will be glad to know that there seems to be no stopping going forwards as the current start-up scene in the U.K. and many western economies favours small independents ready to go in at the deep end.

There are also typically few barriers to entry into the hospitality sector and more so in the foodservice which makes it the more appealing for those looking for a career change. This should be an opportunity for food lovers that can identify a good niche of a great hospitality offering.

“What we’re witnessing is a rebirth of sorts in the hospitality sector. At Quick Buffet, part of our job is to help those businesses with an authentic offering at the start-up stage get off to a great start,” says Joas Serugga, CEO and Founder Quick Buffet, the U. K’s caterers’ market place.

Evidence shows that a lot of innovation in foodservice is being driven by the large providers in the sector. “However what they gain in innovative technologies, they lose through large scale standardisation that takes some of the hospitableness out of hospitality.” Joas says

Quick Buffet’s approach aims to redress this imbalance through its technologies by ensuring all food and drink entrepreneurs have access to the necessary technological resources needed and also access to others like compliance and safe food practices. Quick Buffet’s technologies also help deliver marketing and sales opportunities by linking these start-ups directly to their local customer base.

“Our first and foremost commitment is to help these businesses grow their aim of delivering an authentic offering” Joas Serugga adds. “In the end, this can only be healthy for the customers they if they’ve choice when they need it and the sector as a whole.”
