The Men of the USS Arizona (BB-39)
Discover untold stories from Pearl Harbor! New book pays tribute to men who served aboard the USS Arizona
Online, September 10, 2013 (Newswire.com) - We've all heard about the attack that drew the United States into World War II, but are there yet untold stories about Pearl Harbor? In 'The Men of the USS Arizona (BB-39)' (ISBN: 1490964118), T. J. Cooper finds more stories to tell as she pays tribute to the men aboard one of the battleships sunk on Dec. 7, 1941.
The USS Arizona briefly joined other ships in escorting President Woodrow Wilson to the Paris Peace Conference after 1919. She eventually docked at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in an attempt to deter Japanese imperialism. More than 1,100 officers and crewmen died when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and scored four hits on the USS Arizona.
"The Men of the USS Arizona (BB-39)" includes detailed information on the dead as well as true stories from the people who experienced the event firsthand. Cooper meticulously researched each man killed aboard the battleship. She put the same dedication into researching the survivors, several of whom survived Pearl Harbor just to lose their lives later in the war. The product of her eight years of research is now available as a tool for educators to use to teach about the attack, and it serves as a look back for history buffs. It is also a treasure trove of information for family members who can find out more about their loved ones who served aboard the USS Arizona.
"A ship does not come alive until the men board and put her in service," Cooper says. "These men were the heart and soul of the ship and should not be forgotten."
"The Men of the USS Arizona (BB-39)" is available for sale online at Amazon.com and other channels.
