The Most Haunted Town in Britain
A new book has just been published about a town believed to be the most haunted in Britain.
Online, October 26, 2011 (Newswire.com) - A new book has just been published about the town believed to be the most haunted in Britain.
Haunted Places in Newport Pagnell includes chilling ghost tales and local legends featuring murder, mystery and intrigue. Author Julie Wilson has unravelled stories about a mysterious monk, a whispering child and a woman who burned to death.
It's thought that Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire could claim the title of Britain's most haunted town. The place which up until now has been cited as being the most haunted village or town in Britain is Pluckley in Kent with twelve to sixteen ghosts, but Newport Pagnell easily beats that.
Julie said: "It was a big surprise to discover that there are so many reputedly haunted places in the town - 25 are featured in the book. It was fascinating to talk to the many people who have had encounters with ghosts."
The book includes tales about strange and spooky happenings in several High Street shops, pubs, local landmarks and private houses.
The author added: "Newport Pagnell is an historic town with eerie charm and character. It's a place where mena nd women have lived and worked since the Iron Age, and where their footsteps and echoes still remain.
Walk along the ancient town centre roads late at night when all is quiet and you can almost sense the many whispers and shadows from the past."
Haunted Places in Newport Pagnell costs £7.50 and is available online from www.hauntedplaces.org.uk
