The National Atheist Party Congratulates Barack Obama On His Re-election
Online, November 13, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Social Justice And Equality Will Remain A Priority In Our White House.
Winning both the popular and Electoral College vote, Barack Obama has been re-elected as President of the United States. The National Atheist Party has long supported the President, and are proud that he will remain their president.
In an election which saw his opponents insisting that "we're a nation that believes that we're all children of the same God," Mr. Obama has steadfastly maintained that as President he will recognize people of all faiths and people of no faith.
"President Obama is the only president in history to acknowledge the existence of atheist, humanist and other secular voters. That he has done so without disparagement is a hallmark of his belief in tolerance and secularism, a stance which echoes the founding principles of this nation." said Troy Boyle, President of the National Atheist Party (NAP).
The re-election of the President was not the only victory the NAP celebrated. In Florida, Amendment 8, which proposed allowing taxpayer funding of religion, was voted down. Missouri Representative Todd Akin, a member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, who has repeatedly denied scientific evidence on a range of issues, lost his seat. In Arizona, Kyrsten Sinema is going to congress as the only openly atheist member of Congress, and she is doing so with the NAP's loud applause.
Troy Boyle concluded that "Tuesday night was a victory for all of us. The citizens of this country told their officials loud and clear that they are tired of the Republican's ridiculous denial of scientific facts and their insistence on the superiority of religious faith in substitution. This country is waking up, and they are asking for something better from their elected officials. I fully believe that it is this push towards reason-based politics that has put Barack Obama in the White House for another four years."
