The Next Wave - A 3rd Generation of Studio Furniture Makers kicks off a six week exhibition of some of the world's best craftsmanship with a public reception and a meet the artists on Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 3-5 PM at the Windsor Art Center. Award winning furniture maker Thomas Throop, of New Canaan, Connecticut, has brought together this group of twelve highly skilled artists who hale from throughout New England and New York.

"About a year ago Jack Alberti called to ask if I would curate an exhibition of studio furniture for the Windsor Art Association. The Next Wave- A Third Generation of Studio Furniture Makers seemed to be the perfect opportunity to gather a group of accomplished mid- career studio furniture makers. Looking back on my own history, at the time I was just starting out, an exhibition at the MFA in Boston called New American Furniture: The Second Generation of Studio Furnituremakers helped me see the possibilities of a life making furniture. Twenty years later I am still at it and still inspired by those around me who continue to explore making furniture as a means of expression and a way of life."

Jonathan Binzen, former senior editor and now contributor to Fine Woodworking Magazine said in his forward for The Next Wave Catalog "Furniture making is not a career for the faint of heart. It promises long hours, little limelight, and only a trickle of compensation." Knowing this, we stand in awe of the dedication and achievements of these twelve artists and invite you to see their work during The Next wave show.

Accompanying the exhibition will be a children's room in the North Gallery with loads of Legos for creating furniture. The South Gallery will feature an ongoing film on the creative process and books to thumb through for inspiration.

The gallery at Windsor Art Center is free and parking is plentiful. For directions and other information please consult winsoratcenter.org.

The Next wave - A Third Generation of Furniture Makers is made possible through a contribution by Dan and Alice Ferrana with additional support from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism and The Hartford.
