The Northern Lights Of Lapland

The Northern lights are a fantastic sight that you really must witness for yourself to really appreciate their beauty and wonder. The best time to see the Northern lights is between November and March.

Lapland holidays offer so much to the holidaymaker, there are so many activities to try and experience, there is Santa Claus, excellent food and there is the wonder of the Northern Lights which are considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world and the best time to see them is between February and March although there is every chance you can see them earlier or much later. The Northern lights produce beautiful colours of golden yellow, green and red dancing across the night sky and then disappearing into the darkness once again. If you are lucky you may see the Northern lights during New Year as long as the nights sky is clear and there really is nothing better than seeing in the New year under the beautiful blanket of the Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis as the Northern Lights are known are caused for the most part by the sun, the sun gives off tiny particles of energy called Atomic particles, these tiny particles travel into space and after a couple of days reach Earth. The particles are then drawn above the Earth's surface and combine with gasses to produce what we now know are the Northern Lights. There are many organised trips in Lapland to see the Northern Lights. Lapp village in Yllas Lapland have organised Northern Light walks which are great for the children or you can seek them out yourself. Years ago the people of Lapland were convinced that the Northern Lights represented the spirits of the dead or that they were fox's made of fire dancing in the night sky. We no longer believe this of course but we do still appreciate and are in wonder at the sight of the Northern Lights. A holiday in Lapland is not complete without witnessing the Northern Lights for yourself and the sheer beauty of them.
