The Orbis School Children Strive For The Guinness World Record

Online, June 3, 2012 (Newswire.com) - When most of the children were enjoying their summer vacations, 40 children from The Orbis School, Pune were gearing up for the big day. These children were a part of a simultaneous dance routine in an attempt to create a Guinness World Record. The event was organised by Big Dance, an event in which 500,000 children across the globe participated in a pre-choreographed dance routine on May 18th, at 1 p.m. British Summertime, i.e. 5.30 p.m. IST.

Big Dance is an annual event in the UK and this year it coincides with the day the Olympics torch arrives in London. The Big Dance was started in 2006 by the Mayor of London in partnership with the Arts Council England. Due to it's association with British Council, The Orbis School was fortunate to be a part of this prestigious event.

Shahi Farooqui, an administration team member of the Orbis school said, "For more than a month now, about 40 of our kids from Junior KG to class 6have been practising for the event. This is for first time we participated and as far as we know, we are the only school from Pune to do so. The event was a great success, the children put their best foot forward and gave a wonderful performance.
Jacqueline Rose, director of Big Dance 2012 said, "The global response to the Big Dance Record Attempt emphasises the power of dance as an art form to communicate and how it can unite communities."
