American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) has been awarded a 2017 Top Workplaces honor by The Oregonian. ACHS was named fourth in the top 45 small companies (99 employees or less) in Oregon and southwest Washington. ACHS president, Dorene Petersen, was further honored with a “best in” Leadership award in the small business category. These special awards are employee-driven; they are based on scores from statements in the 2017 Top Workplaces survey.

“I was really excited to learn ACHS was named a Top Workplace for the second year in a row,” says ACHS President Dorene Petersen."The college has always been committed to the health and well-being of our students, staff, and faculty, and we further solidified that commitment by becoming a Certified B Corporation™. B Corps® hold themselves to a higher standard of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, and operate with a clear mission to benefit the communities they serve. And our employees are not only part of our community, they keep us at the forefront of innovative integrative health education.”

“That’s why it’s especially meaningful to be honored with the additional Leadership award for small business,” Petersen says. “I know that award is the direct result of our employees’ survey responses. I respect and value every one of them, and it feels pretty amazing to know they feel the same,” Petersen adds.

The Top Workplaces lists are based solely on the results of an employee feedback survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a leading research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement. Several aspects of workplace culture were measured, including alignment, execution, and connection, to name a few.

“Engaged employees are motivated to do great work, loyal to the organization and recommend the organization to others,” said Doug Claffey, CEO of WorkplaceDynamics, the organization who administers this survey through their The Top Workplaces project. This project, launched in 2006, has surveyed 40,000 organizations and heard 14 million employee voices across the country.

“By participating in employee engagement surveys like The Oregonian Top Workplaces, ACHS achieves independent validation of the success of its efforts to support, mentor, and develop its employees, who in turn, are committed to the achievement of each and every one of our students and graduates,” added Tracey Abell, ACHS chief operating officer.
