The Past and Present of the Santa Clarita Valley

Displaying over 200 images of the Santa Clarita Valley's past and present is the next addition to Arcadia Publishing's popular Then & Now series, The Santa Clarita Valley. This new pictorial history is by local authors Dr. Alan Pollack, Kim Stephens

The authors of The Santa Clarita Valley state that "Santa Clarita is a city where the Old West meets the new Hollywood." As a "back lot" for Hollywood since the early days of movie making, images throughout the book depict the important role that the area played in film history. Images of the past highlight the progression of the community and the legendary people that played a key part in its growth.

The book then shifts from the "Old West" to the "New West" and chronicles the area's modern history. The book shares how the city of Santa Clarita was born in 1987 as the nation's first new city with a population greater than 100,000. Colorful images depict how the valley has transitioned from agriculture to a broad spectrum of industries, all while maintaining its role as a location for film and television production. The Santa Clarita Valley offers a fascinating history that stretches back to the rugged Wild West era and preserves the history for generations to come.
