What do Amir Blumenfeld from CollegeHumor, Musician Amanda Palmer, Journalist Mark Frauenfelder, YouTube celebrity KassemG, Henry Rollins, and Noah Kalina have in common?
They have all been participants at The-Questionnaire.com, a unique website that poses questions to interesting people, musicians, artists, and quite a few controversial individuals and receives from them answers that are as fascinating and... controversial.
Comedian Sara Benincasa confessed that she sent feces in a box to a guy that cheated on her best friend. Damian Kulash from the band OK Go asked himself "How's your record coming along, Damian?". Veronica Belmont revealed that she dressed up as a bear for a friend's music video and the members of the band Pomplamoose interviewed themselves in a video questionnaire. In other cases a certain interviewee came out of the closet and others announced they are quitting their jobs through the website. As opposed to other questionnaires, the site webmasters, Sinai Gez and Dotan Schachter, invite the responders to pass the opportunity to answer the questionnaire to other people. As opposed to other blogs which fixate on personal journaling or professional posts about a specific topic, The Questionnaire's content is made up entirely of the answers of its participants.
How are The Questionnaires' participants chosen?
"These are people who are interesting, funny; it's fascinating to hear what they have to say and see how they will handle a formational questionnaire and not a specific interview which is meant to promote an album, movie or single" says Sinai Gez, who founded the Israeli version of the website two years ago, "these are very general questions like "What turns you on creatively?", "If you were a mind-reader whose mind would you like to read?" that manage to surprise every time with original and personal answers. Another way to reach the interviewees is through the visitors' requests or the question "Who would you like to see answer this Questionnaire?" that seals the questionnaires, and then we start to look for whomever they wanted to be interviewed".
How do you get in touch with the people?
"Most of them are reached via Email. Most people have a personal website and can also be reached via Twitter, Facebook or their YouTube pages, in other cases we receive requests and referrals from people who wish to participate in The Questionnaire, it travels as word of mouth and we're constantly surprised at people's willingness to participate".
