The Revolutionary Smartphone Case That Improves Both Cellular and WiFi Signal Reception

The WavCatcher™ next generation smartphone case addresses the universal problem of dropped calls. It contains advanced MIMO Antenna Technology to reduce dropped calls, increase data speeds and lengthen battery life. Farfield Co., the creators of the case, need crowdfunding assistance to finalize a market ready form factor to satisfy retailer requirements.

Power to the people. That's essentially what Farfield is counting on when they launch WavCatcher™, their new innovative smartphone case, on Kickstarter, Wednesday, April 8th. The company has already proven out iPhone 5/5s and 6 case prototypes in lab and field tests. They now need crowdfunding support to optimize the performance and make the case market ready for retailers to carry.

The company was approached last summer by a national retailer to determine if it was possible to create a smartphone case to resolve the universal problem of dropped calls. At the time, they were developing a custom best-in-class base station antenna for a Tier One wireless carrier. To determine feasibility, the company's engineering team experimented with integrating the same patent pending technology used in the carrier solution into existing smartphone case form factors.

A couple months later, the company successfully improved the iPhone 5/5s coverage area. Although not an absolute measure of signal reception, the iPhone 5/5s model's signal strength meter improved up to one full bar (10x signal strength increase) in some remote areas. After deconstructing the newly released iPhone 6, the company's iPhone 6 case prototype was able to replicate similar improvement.

"What we do is give your smartphone bigger ears," says Pete Peng, the company's founder. "Bigger ears translate into reduced drops, faster data and a longer battery life due to improved power efficiency."

Mr. Peng adds, "As you can see from the many TV commercials, the wireless market is extremely competitive. The carriers want to improve the end user experience, but base station costs are the greatest barrier to improving wireless service in a timely manner. With our WavCatcher™ solution, we are using proven technology that was originally developed for the Department of Defense. And this is what gives the consumer the flexibility and convenience to go farther.”
