The Search For Mumpreneur Idol 2011 Is On

This week sees the launch of the first ever Mumpreneur Idol competition, the only start-up competition for entrepreneurial mothers!

Being a stay at home mum is the preferred option for new mums in the UK, however, in the current economic climate it is not always a viable option. We have seen a huge surge in the number of mums starting their own home based businesses and recent surveys suggest there are thousands more that want to join this fast growing sector.

Mumpreneur UK, a leading support group for business mums, have identified that the main reasons holding mothers back from launching a business are start up costs alongside no experience in business. This causes a lack of confidence that they could actually run a business and generate an income. Because of this, new mums are opting to return to work rather than take the risk of moving their enterprising ideas forward.

With this in mind, Mumpreneur UK are launching a nationwide business start-up competition aimed solely at aspiring mumpreneurs, proving that it is possible to start and run your own successful home based business whilst juggling school runs, housework, dirty nappies and other motherly duties.

Amanda Farren, co-founder of Mumpreneur UK and mum of four, says 'One of our objectives as the UK support network for business mums, is to encourage more parents into enterprise. For those mums who are at home, or in employment, and are sitting on a great idea, we're eager to encourage them to take that big leap. We've been looking for ways in which to provide support and inspiration to these women, and we're delighted to think that Mumpreneur Idol will do just that!'

The Mumpreneur Idol competition is simple, submit your proposed business plan or business idea to Mumpreneur UK, if you are lucky enough to be announced as a finalist, you will be asked to pitch your business plan to a panel of judges which includes Emma Jones, serial entrepreneur and founder of Enterprise Nation and Shaa Wasmund, business woman extraordinaire and founder of Smarta.com.

Mum of three, Laura Rigney, of Mumpreneur UK said 'It's really exciting to think that we are able to assist another mum with the launch of their own business. There is nothing quite as rewarding as following your dreams and taking the gamble, especially when it pays off.'

The mum chosen as the winner by the panel will receive the ultimate business start-up package (with a current value of £4000) which includes a laptop, mobile phone, a fully designed website, business mentoring, insurance, branding, and much, much more.
