The Solution for Abandoned Goals: Go MAD
Most resolutions are abandoned before the first two weeks of January are gone, but author Jurgen Wolff claims to have the solution. It's called MAD, for Massive Action Day, and it's a unique approach the includes live video, audio tracks, and prizes.
Online, January 2, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Most resolutions are forgotten as soon as they are made, but this year self-development specialist Jurgen Wolff claims there's an antidote-going MAD. In this case, MAD stands for Massive Action Day, an online event that helps participants get their year off to a productive start. It takes place on Saturday, January 7, 2012.
Wolff says, "Most people never get to the point of taking practical steps to achieve the goals they set for themselves. By focusing on an important goal for one day early in the year they can set themselves up for success."
The concept is simple: participants sign up and on the day go to a special website where they post goal for the day. Every hour they come back and say what they did and their goal for the next hour.
At the start of the hour there's a live video stream in which Wolff offers time tips, answers questions, and help participants with any blocks or issues you're having.
Via the chat window participants see what others are doing and support each other.
Wolff also gives away prizes, including books, posters, and audio tracks every hour to help keep it a fun but focused atmosphere.
Why this unusual format? "It combines three elements that research has shown are crucial to achieving a goal," Wolff says. "One is declaring your intention--going public with your goal. Another is social support--other people who are trying to do something similar. And the third is making specific plans for how to achieve the goal."
Wolff is the author of a dozen books, including "Focus: use the power of targeted thinking to get more done" (Pearson). During the Massive Action Day he shares tips from that book and from his private coaching practice.
Does it work? Here are a few comments from previous participants:
"I am so focused it's as if my mind has had a kick up the backside."
"Have actually got the docs sorted for the tax return-would normally have taken me three days!"
"Brilliant-I managed to write about 4000 words and plan the next two chapters of my book."
The MAD goes on for sixteen hours, which means it offers participants in just about any time zone a full day of productivity. As well as the US, Canada, and the UK, participants from France, Germany, Spain, Russia, India, Afghanistan, and Australia have taken part.
Wolff points out, "Of course you don't have to take part for a full day, even a few hours of focused effort can kick-start your progress."
The fee is just enough to cover Wolff's costs, only $8 or £5 or €6.
Wolff says the benefits extend beyond the day: "In addition to starting your year with a surge of energy and achievement," he says, "you'll pick up practical tips for continuing. I reveal solutions for overcoming procrastination and my unique one-minute-motivator method."
