The iaedp Foundation Offers Weekend of World-Class Educators and Entertainment to Inspire Eating Disorder Professionals

Time is running out to register for The iaedp Foundation's Symposium 2012. Featuring a record-setting 40 workshops, a performance of the off-Broadway hit musical NOR*MAL and lectures by leaders in the treatment of eating disorders, the March 22-25 event in Charleston, S.C., is not to be missed.

"Symposium 2012 is an extraordinary weekend designed to present, educate and inspire eating disorder professionals. This year we are pleased to present award-winning presentations by some of the most honored professionals in our field," said Bonnie Harken, Managing Director at The iaedp Foundation.

Highlights for this year's Symposium include:

• An exclusive presentation of the award-winning off-Broadway family musical NOR*MAL, a moving and brilliant story that confronts eating disorders while promoting hope and survival.

• Keynote speaker Jean Kilbourne, an internationally recognized author and groundbreaking advocate for women's causes will kick off the series with an exclusive discussion based on her award-winning book, So Sexy So Soon: The New Sexualized Childhood. The discussion will examine the harmful consequences of the sexualization of children and teenagers and suggest strategies for change.

• Over 40 provocative concurrent workshops taught by eating disorder treatment experts and field professionals will cover topics including "bigorexia," the male struggle with body image, the benefits of psychodrama as method for treating eating disorders, eating disorder risks and treatment for athletes and an open-to-the-public presentation by lawyer and patients' rights advocate Lisa Kantor on the mental health parity act, which will demystify the details of how to secure insurance coverage for mental illnesses including eating disorders.
