The Top EMBA Programs in the US Northeast Revealed in Comprehensive Survey

Once again, The Wharton MBA for Executives (Philadelphia) and Columbia Business School Executive MBA Program lead ranking

Ivy Exec’s third annual EMBA rankings are out and in only the second year providing regional results, The Wharton MBA for Executives (Philadelphia) and Columbia Business School Executive MBA Program again occupy the top spots in the 2018 Best Executive MBA Programs – US Northeast ranking. To compile these rankings, Ivy Exec undertook a quantitative, survey-based perception study of its nearly one-million-member strong professional community of high-achieving, advancement-oriented executives.

The Top Executive MBA Programs in the US Northeast are:

1.    The Wharton MBA for Executives (Philadelphia)

2.    Columbia Business School Executive MBA Program

3.    MIT Executive MBA Program

4.    NYU Stern Executive MBA Program

5.    Rutgers Executive MBA Program

6.    Hult International EMBA

7.    The Yale EMBA

8.    Fox Executive MBA

9.    Katz EMBA Worldwide Program

10.  The Fordham Executive MBA

"What is unique about the Ivy Exec's Executive MBA rankings is that that they are holistic and that they are 'laser-targeted' towards executives today; Life Balance and Prestige, for example, are ranked along with more traditional factors such as Career Enhancement,” offers Professor Langdana, director of the Rutgers Executive MBA Program. “This is, quite simply, a ranking for executives by executives in a world of executive pressures and metrics. It is this fact that makes Ivy Exec simply THE ranking for executives looking to career-accelerate or career-transition in the turbulent global economic climate today."

The rankings are the result of a robust study of 6,245 global participants. Drilling down on the respondent pool, an impressive 55 percent held 20-plus years of work experience. In the remaining three segments, 22 percent had 15-20 years’ experience, 15 percent had 11-15 and lastly, eight percent had 7-10 years’ professional experience. The study intentionally excluded participants with less than seven years of work experience and entry-level titles.

Another key characteristic of this sample population is its collective level of education. In total, a combined 69 percent of 2018 respondents had completed either an MBA (39 percent) or EMBA (30 percent), with only 31 percent having neither. In 2017, only 50 percent had completed an MBA/EMBA, representing a 19-point improvement in this key demographic. We believe this information provides great credibility to the opinions shared within this survey as a function of the educational attainment of the providers.

Ivy Exec’s goal in releasing its annual EMBA program rankings is to support its members and the broader, global professional community in making better-informed decisions when selecting the best-fit EMBA program for themselves. Pursuing an EMBA is a significant investment of time, not to mention money, so these rankings may help a professional consider potential ROI ahead of time.

Beyond the numbers, the study also gathered qualitative data to examine participants’ views on various important questions such as what they found “most important when it comes to career advancement opportunities post-EMBA?” Forty percent of respondents viewed “more responsibility” as a key post-EMBA outcome, while 33 percent looked to “higher compensation” and finally, 27 percent sought “flexibility to change industries” as key benefits. This was a complete reshuffle from 2017 results which ranked 1) “higher compensation”, 2) “flexibility to change in industries” and 3) “more responsibility,” in order of importance.

In addition to the Best EMBA Programs – US Northeast ranking, survey participants from other U.S. regions (Mid-Atlantic/South, Midwest and West), as well as Asia, Europe and Latin America, were asked to share their perceptions on EMBA programs from their respective regions. Those rankings can be found here.
