The US Mint Releases the Special 30th Anniversary 2016 1 Oz. Proof Silver American Eagle Coin
New York City, NY, September 13, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Celebrate 30 years of exceptional mintage with the unique 2016 1 oz. Proof Silver American Eagle Coin with smooth, lettered edge!
The United States Mint marks this year the 30th anniversary of the coin’s mintage. Proof American Silver Eagles have been struck for the first time in 1986. From their introduction until 1992, the coins were struck at the San Francisco facility, having the “S” mintmark. Between 1993 and 2000, the coins were produced at the Philadelphia facility (“P” mintmark) and beginning with 2001 (with the exception of 2009 when no Proof Silver Eagles were issued by the US Mint) the coins are minted at the West Point facility carrying the “W” mintmark. The wonderful 1 oz. Proof Silver American Eagle Coin is made from .999 fine silver, having a stunning mirror-like finish and bearing the $1 denomination with weight and purity backed by the US Government.
The beautiful obverse design of the coin represents the renowned and prize worthy image created by the American sculptor-engraver Adolph A. Weinman – the beloved Walking Liberty, previously featured on the Walking Liberty Half Dollars. The image features the Lady Liberty moving confidently towards the sunlight while holding laurel and oak branches in her left hand – the symbol of the America’s strength. Her graceful full-length figure is enveloped in the folds of the US Flag and her image is encircled by the inscriptions “In God We Trust”, “Liberty”, and “2016”.
The magnificent reverse design of the Proof Silver American Eagles hasn’t changed since its first mintage. It was created by the former Chief Sculptor-Engraver of the US Mint – John M. Mercanti. The incredibly detailed design showcases the majestic heraldic eagle which holds the arrows in its left talon and an olive branch in its right talon while carrying the shield and holding a banner in its beak displaying the words “E Pluribus Unum”. This image is the symbol of the Nation’s preparedness to defend the country as well as its desire for peace. The thirteen stars honoring the thirteen original colonies are engraved above the eagle’s image, which is surrounded by the engravings “United States of America”, “One Dollar” and the coin’s weight and purity.
The exquisite feature that makes the 2016 1 oz. Proof Silver American Eagle Coin so unique is the special change from the well-known reeded edge to the smooth edge with the incused “30th Anniversary” lettering. This anniversary edition of the coin is sold by the US Mint in a gorgeous blue velvet, satin-lined presentation case which is accompanied by the 30th-anniversary Certificate of Authenticity. For this reason, this spectacular coin is an exceptional keepsake and desired addition for any passionate collector.
