The Wakeman Agency Named as Finalist in 8th Annual Stevie Awards For Women in Business

The Wakeman Agency, an event management and public relations firm in NYC, was named by the Stevie Awards for Women in Business as a finalist in their annual competition for the Public Relations Campaign of the Year Award for their campaign for HEAF.

The Wakeman Agency, an event management and public relations firm in New York City, was named by the Stevie Awards for Women in Business as a finalist in their annual competition. The agency's work for local nonprofit organization Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) gained the attention of the judges, earning Wakeman a finalist spot for the Public Relations Campaign of the Year category.

The Wakeman Agency's submission chronicled its work to increase attention to HEAF's progressive educational model, which is geared toward helping NYC students from underserved areas prepare socially and intellectually for college. With the dialogue about education and particularly college readiness reaching a feverish pitch in recent years across the country, The Wakeman Agency was able to leverage HEAF's track-record to bring attention to their work. HEAF students have a 94% college graduation rate, compared to the national average of 45% for African American and Latino students, their primary demographic. Using a series of human interest stories and refined messaging from the organization's spokesperson, The Wakeman Agency was able to highlight the program's innovative approach to empowering young people to take control of their future, a population of mostly first-generation college students.

More than 1,300 entries - a record for the competition - were submitted this year for consideration in 75 categories, including Best Executive, Best Entrepreneur, Women Helping Women, and Public Relations Campaign of the Year.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honor women executives, entrepreneurs and the companies they run - worldwide. The Stevie Awards have been hailed as the world's premier business awards.

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word "crowned," winners will be announced during a gala event at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on Friday, November 11. Nominated women executives and entrepreneurs from the U.S.A and several other countries are expected to attend. The presentations will be broadcast live on radio in the U.S.A. by the Business TalkRadio Network.

"Our clients are a dynamic group of innovators and thought leaders committed to making the world a better place. Having the opportunity to partner with them to help tell their stories through PR and events is extremely gratifying; to be recognized for doing what we love will only strengthen our passion for this work," stated Vanessa Wakeman, CEO of The Wakeman Agency.

Finalists were chosen by business professionals worldwide during preliminary judging. Members of the six final judging committees will select Stevie Award winners from among the Finalists.

"Women entrepreneurs and executives continue to innovate, excel, and impress," said Michael Gallagher, president of the Stevie Awards. "Regardless of general economic conditions, the achievements of women-owned and run organizations around the world remain high, and are reflected in this year's impressive body of Finalists."
