These Are the Best and Worst Airports to Get Delayed at This Holiday Season
CHICAGO, October 23, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International tops Orbitz’s list for best airport amenities; Charlotte-Douglas ranks the worst ahead of the busiest travel day of the year
Thanksgiving travel and airport delays go together like turkey and stuffing, which is why travel site Orbitz is preparing for the holiday rush with its ranking of the best and worst airports to get delayed at this holiday season.
We know most travelers can't realistically pick and choose which airports to avoid this holiday season. But even if you're traveling to an airport near the bottom of the list, this information can help you plan a more rewarding trip. Whether that's peace of mind knowing you can quickly download a last-minute movie for the kids at Sea-Tac or as extravagant as ice skating at the Denver airport before takeoff, this list is here to help.

Orbitz compared airport amenities at the 15 busiest airports in the U.S. including number of dining and shopping outlets, airport lounges and their average prices and Wi-Fi speed. On-time departures were also factored into the ranking.
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport topped the list as the best airport to get delayed at with a total score of 53.9. ATL boasts 221 retail shopping outlets – the most of any airport by nearly double – and the most on-time departures. The airport also scored points for easy transportation from the airport on MARTA and unique conveniences, like its 1,000-square-foot dog park in the ground transportation area.
Seattle-Tacoma International and Las Vegas’ McCarran International rounded out the top three. Sea-Tac boasts the fastest download speed of any airport on the list – perfect for travelers streaming music or movies on-the-go – and the fewest flight cancellations. McCarran scored points for the most affordable member and public airport lounges ($40 a piece) and more than 100 different dining options.
Charlotte Douglas International earned the title of worst airport to get delayed at with a low score of 22.1, followed closely by Newark Liberty International Airport at 22.3. Both airports scored among the lowest for shopping, dining and availability of airport lounges. CLT also logged the slowest Wi-Fi speed of any airport on the list.
Best and worst airports in US guide lists Orbitz’s full ranking and includes a “delay survival guide” for each airport including public transportation options, top guest-rated airport hotels on Orbitz.com and traveler tips on things to see and do. Attractions on the list include free yoga studios at Dallas/Fort Worth International, an art center playing short films at SFO and live musical performances at Houston’s George Bush International.
