Like many of you, I am always trying to find the next best kept secret that will drive real traffic to my website. Last month I stumbled upon an ad for a traffic exchange site and thought I would give it a try.

The websites for these traffic exchanges are just as cluttered and confusing as the service they offer, but the opportunity to get 1000 new visitors to my website was simply too good of an offer to pass up. So I signed for two of the sites in order to run a case study on which one would produce the best results, and to my surprise there were at least 225 new visitors to my website by 11am the next day.

With 225 new visitors some would consider that a very good end result, but before you click off this article in order to sign up for a traffic exchange please let me explain what type of traffic they drove through my site. Not all traffic is good traffic, and not all traffic is real traffic. My search to find a good source of quality leads has pretty much bounced me all over the internet.

My first go at it was with a heavily advertised company called Engine Seekers which turned out to be a huge disappointment. The plan I selected cost me $280 a month and would guarantee 5000 visitors to my site each month. The part they failed to mention is that all of the traffic comes from a traffic exchange or a click robot. I was able to determine this by viewing the IP address of each click that Engine Seekers sent to my website, all of it was from traffic exchanges.

If you're getting 1000 visitors a day to your website but all of the clicks are from a robot then you have just wasted your hard earned money. When you pay for traffic you are actually paying for generic hits by an automated software program.

As compared to the traffic from Engine Seekers and traffic exchanges, authentic site views actually look like real visitors. I noticed that all of the traffic for these two site reflected only one page views all totaling 1 second each. As compare to traffic from sites like Craigslist and Ezine Articles traffic in which the visitor actually view pages on your site, paying for traffic is simply throwing money out of the window.
