Three Connecticut Companies Team Up For Animals

Walker Systems Support, a CT based IT support company and social enterprise, teamed up this winter with three other CT companies to come to the aid of the Meriden Humane Society. The tale of how these three companies put together a rescue effort is almost as important as the actual rescue itself and is a testament to what can be achieved when people listen to each other and work for a common goal

It started with a meeting between Carl Fazzina, Business Development Manager at Walker, and a networking partner from ConnStep. Carl was explaining Walker's social enterprise business model and some of the community outreach initiatives that are very much a part of the culture at Walker. One of our very active initiatives is helping animals. This conversation led to Tom linking us to one of his clients, ShelterLogic of Watertown. They had some new canine structures that were just sitting in a warehouse taking up valuable space.

Timing is everything. Melanie Jordan, Senior Client Relationship Manager at Walker, and lead of our Animal Community Outreach initiatives, had recently heard about the disaster at the Meriden Humane Society (a no-kill shelter facility). It seems they had lost their outside dog structures when the roof of these structures collapsed due to the massive snow and ice that mother nature dumped on CT in January leaving them with nowhere to house the dogs when cleaning their inside cages. Melanie quickly, with the help of Carl, started to work with ShelterLogic to see if we could get those structures sitting in the warehouse to the Meriden Humane Society.

This tail-wagging tale has a happy ending. What started as a chance comment about Walker's business model ended up helping a wonderful organization. ShelterLogic donated 60 shelters to the Meriden Humane Society. These shelters were then delivered by Melanie's sister's employer, L..R. Hawthorne Trucking Co. We understand that some of the shelters are already in use. Walker intends to further assist by working with the Meriden Humane Society to put up more shelters this spring. Melanie says it best, "Give your pets a hug tonight...they have a home, love and a warm place to sleep. They are very fortunate -- as are you for their loyal companionship."
