Online, January 4, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Memphis, TN. Mid-South Maternal Fetal Medicine has successfully completed the application process for obstetric ultrasound accreditation, through the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine, and has been awarded accreditation for three years.
Participation is AIUM's Ultrasound Practice Accreditation program is voluntary, and is available to practices in the following areas of ultrasound: abdominal/general, obstetrical, gynecological, vascular, breast, or any combination of these areas. The accreditation process allows ultrasound practices the opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses, and to initiate changes for improving their overall operations. The AIUM developed this program in response to the many changes in the approach to healthcare delivery that have resulted in an increased scrutiny of diagnostic evaluations, as well as technical improvements that have allowed for the expanded use of ultrasound.
According to Paula Woletz, Director of Accreditation for AIUM: "The entire practice was reviewed, including the practice's personnel, physical facilities, procedures for documentation, storage, and keeping of records; policies and procedures, quality assurance methods, and how the practice meets the AIUM standards. The practice has met voluntary standards set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession."
