Thrive Commerce Appoints Jim Cahill as Chief Technology Officer

With over 15 years of engineering and leadership experience, Cahill brings a machine learning background that will help transform Thrive's technology.

Thrive Commerce, which has launched a promotions engine for retailers, today announced it has appointed Jim Cahill as chief technology officer, effective immediately. Cahill brings over 15 years of experience to Thrive. He will report directly to Scott Bohrer, Thrive’s chief executive officer, and join Thrive’s executive team.

As CTO, Cahill will be responsible for evolving Thrive’s technology strategy, scaling systems and infrastructure, leading technical innovation and driving roadmap execution to help create the world’s most dynamic promotions engine.

Once we add machine learning capabilities to Thrive's promotions engine, the sky is the limit for the impact our product can have for our retail clients. A one-size-fits-all model of shopper behavior capable of showing the right promotion to the right shopper at the right time is the Holy Grail of retail promotions technology.

Jim Cahill, Chief Technology Officer, Thrive

"During our extensive search for a CTO, Jim emerged as the natural choice due to his proven ability to guide transformation at leading tech companies, as well as his most recent experience as a leader in the design and engineering of Comcast’s machine learning based recommendation and personalization engine. I’m excited to officially welcome Jim to the team and look forward to working closely with him to infuse machine learning into our online and in-store promotions,” said Bohrer.

Cahill’s distinguished and diverse experience spans from Fortune 500 companies to startups. His cutting-edge work at Comcast served personalized recommendations for hundreds of thousands of items of content to millions of users, serving billions of requests per year. Prior to Comcast, Cahill was a senior systems architect and led new product research and development efforts at GoldTier, a financial compliance startup which was acquired by Thomson Reuters. While at Thomson Reuters, Cahill built and led the team responsible for converting their key technology into a managed service solution. The team brought the product to market and successfully launched it within a year.

"Once we add machine learning capabilities to Thrive’s promotions engine, the sky is the limit for the impact our product can have for our retail clients. A one-size-fits-all model of shopper behavior capable of showing the right promotion to the right shopper at the right time is the Holy Grail of retail promotions technology. There are very few, if any, other companies both driving incremental traffic and doing scalable machine learning in this space, and I'm excited to join this talented and growing team," said Cahill.

To continue to bolster its technology and product offering, Thrive also recently added Joe Cairns as vice president of engineering. Cairns brings over 20 years of technology and leadership experience and has built and led engineering teams for the last decade. Cairns’ wealth of knowledge and expertise will enable the company to iterate and scale faster, ultimately providing a better product for its growing customer base.
