Tickets Now On Sale for Tammy McCann, Her Big Band, and Student Jazz Musicians

Tickets are now on sale for a performance by Tammy McCann and her Big Band with Student Musicians at the Charlie's Center for the Arts - Student Event, occurring at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Baker Community Center, St. Charles.

The St. Charles Arts Council is delighted to announce that Tammy McCann, (proclaimed "the next great voice out of Chicago*"), her Big Band, and local student musicians will perform during the Inaugural - Charlie's Center for the Arts - Student Artist Event. The concert is on February 15, 2014. The event will run from February 14 through Sunday, February 16, 2014.

Tickets are on sale now for $25 [seating is limited] to hear this spectacular jazz vocalist - a singer described by Jazz Critic Stanley Crouch as possessing "superb [pitch],…clear on the top and startling at the bottom, while all of the steps in between are polished with swing..." and her Big Band. Local student musicians, featuring the Alex Murphy Quartet, will open the concert at 7 p.m., followed by McCann and her Big Band.

You don't want to miss hearing what McCann can do with classics like Nina Simone's "Black is the Color" or Billy Strayhorn's "Lush Life", or her wonderful interpretations of songs such as the Latin tinged version of the Rogers and Hammerstein favorite "Happy Talk". Also consider visiting the city early to experience ALL of the ARTS, ALL over TOWN - encompassing venues all over the city that will feature visual art galleries/studios, music, spoken word performances, dance and more - all of which feature K - 12 and college student artists.

Visual and Film artists' work can be seen in the student-only neXt gallery, the St Charles Arts Council's pop-up art gallery program to be located at BMO/Harris Bank, 1 E. Main Street, St. Charles. The neXt gallery is open from February 14 through March 9, 2014.

Charlie's also features the programming of our Arts Partners, such as All Things Art Studio and Water Street Studios/PrintLab, and our Civic Partners, Community Unit School District D303 and the St. Charles Park District. About Tammy McCann:
Tammy McCann is an internationally recognized Jazz Vocalist and is currently Artist in Residence for the Music Institute of Chicago. Her powerful, sultry, and emotionally charged voice paints pictures and tells stories by merging Classical vocal technique and Gospel esthetic with Jazz to create a sound that is completely her own. McCann has thrilled audiences in festivals and clubs world- wide as well as the nation's premier Jazz venues such as Birdland, The Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club Coca Cola and Chicago's own Jazz Showcase her shows are not to be missed. The SCAC will serve all those individuals (professionals, amateurs, and students) who produce tangible, consumable works of the imagination and all organizations, businesses, and groups that include and represent those people.
