Startup transmedia publisher Time Yarns is shooting a universe trailer, like a movie trailer for its science fiction universe, as a short science fiction film. Time Yarns is casting several parts and looking for production crewpeople.

The universe trailer's director, Erin Lale, is the director of the magical realist short art film Rain Dance, several how to videos, and the award winning political ad The Cool Cat Campaign Commercial. A longtime science fiction author, former owner and operator of The Science Fiction Store in Las Vegas, and former publisher and editor of the quarterly print magazine Berserkrgangr, filming a science fiction movie fulfills a lifelong dream for her. Lale says, "I was the kid who watched the original Battlestar Galactica on TV and dreamed about being the next John Dykstra," referring to a cinematographer who invented an innovative camera.

Lale is casting several parts, including alien warriors, historically costumed ghost / time travelers, and the Weird Sisters. She is seeking a sci fi makeup artist, B camera operator, lighting technician, prop builder metalsmith, and other crew positions.

Lale plans to work with the same postproduction crew as she used in her previous films. Lale says, "I've already shot the smoke and fire effects for the cannon sequence, which will be played backwards at super slow mo to suggest the idea of the reversal of time's arrow. The other special effects will be added in postproduction. There's about one fx shot per seven seconds in the universe trailer, so it should be pretty cool when it's finished."

The universe trailer is designed to promote the Time Yarns books. Lale says, "I've seen book trailers that are basically slide shows with titles and narration. That's not going to make peoples' jaws drop. My goal with the universe trailer is to make a trailer that is indistinguishable from the trailer for a big budget movie. It'll be something people will tell their friends about."

Time Yarns is publishing several upcoming novels and short fiction anthologies in the Time Yarns shared world universe. Time Yarns authors Gordon Yaswen, an extensively published poet, and Tony Thorne MBE, an engineer in the hard sf tradition of science fiction written by scientists, will be featured in upcoming short fiction anthologies Cassandra's Time Yarns and Anarchy Zone Time Yarns. Editor Lale is still accepting submissions of science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, alternate history, contemporary otherworld, steampunk, weird west, military sf, and bizarro fiction for both anthologies.
