Tips for Successful DIY Drywall Repairs

Homeowners can successfully make drywall repairs themselves if they have the appropriate tools and know-how.

Homeowners are likely to need to repair a hole or mark left in their drywall by a heavy object at least once while owning their house.

They can choose to either cover it up with a painting or repair it without the help of drywall repair contractors, which is easier than many homeowners think.

Here is a list of techniques and supplies homeowners can use to repair cracks, nail pops and other drywall damages:

Tools
1- Stud finder
2- 4 inch steel knife
3- Sandpaper
4- Paper joint tape
5- Cordless drill or saw
6- A bucket of water
7- Tape measure and utility knife
8- Mud, also known as drywall compound or taping compound

Surface injuries: Homeowners can use a lightweight joint compound to fill and dress the spot since the drywall is only damaged on the surface. Once the compound dries, sand and apply a fresh coat of paint, which will help heal the wall.

Major holes and fractures:

1- The damaged drywall needs to be sawed outward to the closest stud on each side, which can be identified using the stud finder.
2- Along the centerline of each stud, cut the drywall vertically using the utility knife.

Homeowners are going to need a piece of drywall, whether it is from their local improvement store or a neighbor, before they can finish the job.

1- Cut the drywall to the size of the hole and secure it using drywall screws.
2- Place tape on the joint around the repair and feather compound 10 inches past the joint.
3- Feather out another coat of compound once the first is dry.
4- Sand the repair and cover it with paint.

There are several ways homeowners can mess up a drywall repair in their GA home improvement, so if they think they cannot do it themselves, their best option is to hire a professional.
