Tommye E. Barie, CPA, Of CPA Associates Is First Florida Woman Elected To The American Institute of CPAs' Board of Directors In Its 123-Year History

Online, December 21, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Her election makes Ms. Barie the first woman from Florida to hold this national post in the organization's 123-year history.

"I believe my service in this capacity is valuable to CPA Associates and our clients," said Ms. Barie. "It puts me in a position to help shape current tax and accounting issues, such as the possibility of new, separate standards for private company reporting."

The AICPA is a national organization of about 360,000 members with 23 Members of the Board from across the country, including three public members one of whom is former US Senator and Governor of Florida, Bob Graham. The AICPA Board of Directors acts as the Executive Committee of the governing Council, directing the Institutes' activities between council meetings.

Ms. Barie also serves as a member of the AICPA Governing Council and the AICPA Audit Committee. She Chairs the AICPA National Accreditation Commission, and is a Trustee for the AICPA Foundation. Ms. Barie currently serves on the board of the United Way of Manatee County, the USF Sarasota-Manatee College of Business Advisory Board, and the Stetson University Accounting Advisory Board, and she chairs the USF Accounting Advisory Council. She also is a past president of the Florida Institute of CPAs.
