Top Big Island Real Estate Firm Gives Back Via The Windermere Foundation
Windermere Real Estate released a generous amount during the first quarter of 2014 to reach out to the less fortunate members of the community through its non-profit arm, the Windermere Foundation.
Kamuela, HI, August 18, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Windermere Real Estate, a leading independent luxury real estate firm operating in the Big Island of Hawaii, has once again reached out to the less fortunate members of the community through its non-profit arm, the Windermere Foundation.
The foundation has released a generous amount totaling $276,547 during the first quarter of 2014, in the form of 117 grants to non-profit organizations, with an average grant size of $2,364. In approving such grants, Windermere hopes to fulfill its mission: To raise and provide funds to support assistance programs for low-income and homeless families.
Currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Windermere Foundation began as a grassroots organization serving families in need in the state of Washington, by providing shelter, clothing, children’s programs, emergency assistance, and other services.
Today, its operations cover ten states, with a particular focus on children’s needs. In fact, 43.57% of the Windermere Foundation’s funds were used to support youth/child programs, especially literacy programs, summer camps, and provision of basic necessities such as new school shoes, socks, and underwear. Moreover, through its non-profit partners, the foundation has helped furnish emergency and transitional housing, and subsidize costs for day care, scholarships, and employment counseling, placement and training, among other programs.
Since 1989, the foundation has raised over $26 million for its programs in two ways: 1) by collecting part of the sales commission from each Windermere Real Estate transaction; and from the individual contributions of its over 7,000 agents from its 300 offices, as well as its staff and friends, through public and private fundraising events.
“The Windermere Foundation is certainly committed to helping others and to this end, we have lined up a series of fundraisers. This year, we set a goal of raising two million dollars this 2014, and we are proud to have reached 25 percent of that target. We invite more people to support our cause so that we may continue giving back to the community,” explained Windermere’s Harold Clarke.
