July 19- July 22, 2012 marks the dates for the 1st Annual National Urban Leadership Training Institute (NULTI). --------

Although a great deal of the "lessons" learned by urban Teachers and Principals come from priceless "hands-on" experience in the classroom and school building, NULTI partners (National Council on Educating Black Children, Executive Educators Leadership Institute, Indiana University, Purdue University - Indianapolis School of Education, Butler University College of Education, Howard University School of Education, Great Lake Equity Center, Pearson, Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.) believe there is much more support and guidance that may be offered to these "front-line" educators to further their efforts and increase their success - all for the benefit of the children and families in their urban districts.

What is "success"? How do we know it when we see it? NULTI defines successful urban education leaders as those who:

•Establish and actively foster a school culture considered to be reflective, appropriate, and welcoming by its students, parents and community.
•Capitalize on valuable resources (time, quality staff, technology, support services, and proactive engagement) shown to provide direct benefit and exceptional outcomes for students, families and community at large.
•Embrace and promote pedagogy of cultural relevancy and responsiveness to all students served by the school.

NULTI 2012 will provide two highly focused training silos: one dedicated to Aspiring Superintendents and the other dedicated to Aspiring Principals. Each silo is especially designed to develop management, leadership, community engagement and strategic planning skills essential to effective urban school infrastructure. Furthermore, NULTI has confirmed an impressive line-up of guest speakers, trainers, and nationally known search groups (head hunters) for those seeking new opportunities. Our plan is to attract top-tier educational talent for urban education leadership and embrace them in an ongoing campaign to provide resources, networking support, and continuing education opportunities that will mold and support their progress well beyond the conclusion of this year's inaugural event.

Urban Educators, please consider this opportunity for yourselves, and others in your district and networks who may be interested in joining NULTI for this groundbreaking opening session. Registration for this event is expected to fill quickly and as such individuals are encouraged to register as soon as possible to guarantee seating.
