Canada has announced a new Skilled Trades Stream which opens doors to skilled foreign workers looking to immigrate to the country. However, legal assistance remains the key to an application being approved. Niren and Associates helps skilled workers take advantage of this new opportunity by guiding applicants through the process of complicated legal requirements.

The new Skilled Trades Stream program debuts on January 2nd, 2013 and will accept only 3,000 applicants to ensure applications are processed rapidly and efficiently. Certain requirements must be met to be accepted into this program. The applicant must have a job offer in place in the country and he or she must have basic English or French skills. The program differs from the Federal Skilled Worker Program in that the level of proficiency in one of these languages is less with the Skilled Trades Stream program. Skilled worker applicants must prove a minimum of two years of work experience in the chosen trade with some of this work occurring recently and trades allowed in this program are limited to certain types described by the government.

Occupations expected to be included in the program include heavy-duty equipment mechanics, electricians, pipe fitters and welders, among others. The goal of the Skilled Trades Stream program is to bring qualified labour in to fill shortages in certain occupations. The occupations on the list will vary by province which is why an immigration lawyer is needed to ensure each person applying qualifies for inclusion in the program, Mr. Niren goes on to say.

"As this program is only accepting a limited number of skilled worker applications , competition is expected to be fierce," Mr. Niren explains. "Those who wish to be considered under this process should contact a Toronto immigration law firm immediately to ensure all paperwork is complete and ready to be filed when the application process opens. Any delays could mean the applicant has to wait until the program opens up again. Legal representation helps to ensure the application process is done right the first time to improves the chances of a favorable result."
