Toronto Startup Shines at Entrepreneurship Awards
Daycare finder CubbySpot a finalist in two prestigious competitions
Toronto, Canada, December 9, 2015 (Newswire.com) - A start-up which allows parents to find daycare spots for their children has been getting attention in the entrepreneurial scene.
Toronto-based company CubbySpot, which launched earlier this year, is a mobile platform that helps parents find the best available daycare for their child and daycares to fill vacancies. Recently, it was named one of three finalists at the 2015 Ignite Capital startup competition in the Immigrant category, and one of the 10 winners in the first round at the 2016 BrightLane Entrepreneur Awards.
Through the BrightLane Entrepreneur Awards, CubbySpot will receive six months of membership and workspace starting in January.
“This is great news for any startup company,” said company co-founder and chief operating officer Liza Ong.
This holiday season, as people become busier and short on time, CubbySpot will come in handy as parents look for childcare. Looking for daycare can be a time-consuming proposition, often involving Internet searches and endless waiting lists, as Ong and her husband, CubbySpot co-founder Regnard Raquedan discovered. In fact, the couple came up with the idea for the company after they themselves had trouble finding a daycare for their daughter. Thus, CubbySpot was born. Since then, the app has allowed Canadians to search for daycare services from their mobile phones – a great timesaver, Liza said.
In addition to the most recent awards and nominations, the company was also one of 30 finalists (and the only Canadian-based startup) in the 2015 Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Tech-I Competition, an annual competition for science and technology entrepreneurs from emerging economies worldwide.
