Touched by Suicide North Texas board President, LaNelia Ramette stated, “There is a lot of shame associated with it [suicide]. I think that as parents, you feel shame that your child took his life that way. Touched by Suicide supports survivors where we are all part of the same club and we can honor loved ones lost to suicide.”  Mrs. Ramette along with her husband, John Ramette, and daughter Christy were featured on Anderson Cooper’s show the year following the death of their beloved son, Michael in 2010. The Coppell, Texas family shared their experience with Anderson Cooper and his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt.  LaNelia candidly states, “Somebody that takes their own life has nothing to do with wanting to die. It has to do with wanting to end the pain, so I want to educate about why people die by suicide.” The Ramette’s co-authored “Say What? Blurts That Hurt” to share their experience and shed light on dealing with an increasingly growing epidemic-mental illness and suicide.

Touched by Suicide serves North Texas supporting suicide prevention and providing support groups for coping after suicide. According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, more Americans die from suicide than in car wrecks and is the tenth leading cause of death in the U.S. With Memorial Day quickly approaching, a significant number of daily deaths are attributed to American Veterans with 22 deaths per day. Share your support by donating and participating in the 9th Annual Touched by Suicide Community Walk on Nov. 7th at 9:00 A.M.
