Touchoo Technology to Power Oxford English-Learning Apps for Kids
Oxford University Press announced today that it is collaborating with digital publishing technology company Touchoo in the creation and distribution of interactive English Language Teaching book-applications for tablets and smartphones.
Online, July 16, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Oxford University Press (OUP) announced today that it is collaborating with digital publishing technology company Touchoo in the creation and distribution of interactive English Language Teaching book-applications for tablets and smartphones.
The first OUP series published using Touchoo's technology is the popular Dolphin Readers series, which has sold millions of copies in print worldwide.
The titles are being released to various app stores, including the Apple App Store and Google Play, starting this month (July, 2013). Educational institutions using Android devices will be able to purchase volume licenses using bookshelf and delivery technology also provided by Touchoo.
Paul Riley, Director of Channels and Partnerships at OUP's English Language Teaching (ELT) division says that "the tablet has become the device of choice for those embracing digital learning, whether as part of government-led programs in Turkey or Korea or educators in forwarding-thinking institutions. We have always sought to bring a rich experience of learning to our books and want to do the same for tablets. Touchoo's technology provides a simple and effective means for achieving this type of experience." The first book-apps in the series were demonstrated in recent trade shows such as UK's BETT and Japan's Educational IT Solutions Expo and were received with much enthusiasm.
One of the titles in this series has also been selected for use on the XO Tablet launched by the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) Association, set up to oversee the creation of affordable educational devices for use in the developing world.
Touchoo's CEO, Omer Ginor, said: "The education market is gradually embracing the tablet as an engaging way to develop young minds, and children today are extremely lucky for it. We are very happy to be supplying OUP with the tools to access this exciting market".
