Toyota And BMW Have Announced Plans To Collaborate

President of the Toyota Motor Corporation, Akio Toyoda, and chairman of the board of management for BMW, Norbert Reithofer, recently signed an agreement to collaborate in four distinct areas. These include: joint research and development of weight saving components and technology; joint development of fuel-cell systems; teamwork in powertrain electrification innovations; joint development of architecture and components designed for a future sports car.

In this partnership, two very different companies bring together their own areas of expertise. Toyota is the world's leading seller of vehicles using hybrid powertrains. BMW is well known as one of the world's foremost producers of luxury sports vehicles and is recognized for its vehicles handling characteristics and performance.
