Toyota Highlander: Now Made in USA!
Online, November 3, 2009 (Newswire.com) - Charles Toyota a leading dealer for new and used Toyota vehicles in Norwich, announces the commencement of the production of Toyota Highlander Sport Utility Vehicle at the company's factory in Princeton, Indiana.
The Highlander is the 12th Toyota model to be manufactured in North America. Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana (TMMI) which already manufactures the Tundra pickup, the Sienna and the Sequoia has started with the production of the Highlander as well. TMMI took a positive approach to several months of slow production by not just continuing with its 4,200 strong team but also by further training them to increase productivity and also streamlining the factory processes. The outcome is lasting success of this factory, which is vital to not just Toyota's customers and team members but also suppliers and the local community.
TMMI is now a mega $3.7 billion investment and the addition of the Highlander to the production line will cause a Domino effect by improving the performance at other Toyota plants such as West Virginia, where the 6-cylinder engine is manufactured, and at hundreds of Toyota's North American suppliers.
The Toyota Highlander made its entry into the market in 2000 and around 1 million Highlanders have been sold in the U.S. since then. The Highlander is available in Base, Sport and Limited versions in both two-wheel and full-time four-wheel-drive models. Interesting features of the vehicle are hill assist, Smart Key, flexible second row seating and a separate glass hatch.
