Online, November 11, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Chambersburg, PA - Model train enthusiasts from around the Cumberland Valley, as well as MD, VA, WVA, OH, NY and NJ will be gathering Saturday, Nov. 19 for the model train auction from the Estate of the late Mr. W. Edward Goodhart.
"Model train collectors as a whole are an enthusiastic group, generous with their knowledge, interested in helping others in the hobby and always excited to showcase their collection," said Micah Fowler, Certified Personal Property Appraiser. "Mr. Goodhart embodied that nature. He loved going to auctions - buying and expanding his collection. I'm sure he would be pleased to know that the trains that brought him so much joy are being appreciated by other enthusiasts."
The collection of over 250 model trains and accessories includes a Lionel Prewar Standard Gauge Cattle Car, a Prewar American Flyer Standard Gauge Set w/the Original Box and Set Box, a rare Jensen Model 50 Power Plant Steam Engine, as well as passenger sets and hundreds of new in box cars.
"It's colossal" said Fowler. "This is the second auction, we've held from the Goodhart collection and we anticipate a crowd of 200-300 eager bidders, phone bidders and even absentee bidders."
Goodhart was a well-respected voice in the Shippensburg borough's municipal government, serving as chairman of the Shippensburg Borough Authority, which administers the area's public water system, and a member of Shippensburg Borough Council.
In 1989, he retired from the US Department of Defense at Fort Ritchey. He enjoyed his retirement - spending time with wife Elva Jane and their Labrador, Daisy and well as being an active member of the Pennsylvania Train Collectors Association.
The Goodhart auction will be held at Gateway Gallery Auction in Chambersburg, PA on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10 AM with a special open house preview Friday, November 18, 2011 from 3-6 PM. The auction and preview are open to the public.
