Transmissions From Colony One Takes Us To Mars
Humans are going to Mars, and when we do go to Mars, we're not only going there to explore - when we go to Mars, we go to stay. Humans may not settle on the first mission, but this objective is the cornerstone of the future for manned space flight. Some are campaigning for increased commercial journeys to low-Earth orbit, while others are calling for a return to Earth's moon, but all roads are leading to Mars.
Those of us left behind on Earth will be wondering what life is like for humans on another planet - what they see, feel, hear, etc. Independent filmmaker John W. Richter has presented an answer to our curiosity with his new radio drama series: Transmissions From Colony One.
On July 4, 2013 (to coincide with the 16th anniversary of the landing of NASA's first Martian rover, "Sojourner"), John W. Richter released Transmissions From Colony One, available at iTunes, Stitcher and more. Transmissions From Colony One is a fictional radio drama centered around a 16-person crew charged with humanity's first landing on Mars. The series blends classic style radio dramas with a contemporary twist of the found footage format to create "on-board recordings" from the interior of the crew's landing craft/habitat, the "Wasp."
The origins of Transmissions From Colony One date as far back as October 2010, when Richter first read articles detailing NASA's option of sending a crew to Mars on a one-way trip in order to establish permanent settlements. Transmissions From Colony One presents a realistic depiction of this type of mission, and features characters that made this conscious decision to completely abandon the familiarities of Earth in the name of exploration.
Transmissions From Colony One was created in Saint Louis, Missouri, but features an international cast from North America, Asia and Europe. The first season of Transmissions From Colony One will comprise ten episodes with a new episode airing every Thursday.
