Transtruct has Grown Rapidly into a Medium-Sized Construction Company in South Africa's Eastern Cape

Anthony Ward, co-founder of Transtruct, tells Construction Digital about the challenges he faced starting his own company.

(San Diego,CA)-Setting up and running your own business can be extremely rewarding, especially from a financial perspective. However, when Anthony Ward left Concor Construction in 1997 and went off on his own, he wasn't expecting to form Transtruct, one of the leading building construction companies in South Africa's Eastern Cape.

Ward told Construction Digital that he helped form the company in 1997 after spending 19 good years with Concor.

"I fancied going off on my own, as I had gained sufficient experience, ending up as a Director of one of the company's construction divisions," he said. "With the help of Murray and Hedley McGrath, who brought the financial might that supported the vision I had, we launched Transtruct."

Transtruct has grown rapidly into a medium-sized construction company in the Eastern Cape and has a current turnover of R200 million per annum.

Ward is happy with that level, and believes there aren't too many reasons to expand.

"Over the last 10 years we have evolved as a company," he explained. "Our group construction turnover last year was R200 million and, as far as aspirations go, we are happy with what we have achieved.

"We are a home-grown Eastern Cape company that was locally born and has developed into one of the larger construction companies in the Eastern Cape - that is something that, as a team, we can collectively be proud of."
