Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

South Carolina is the #2 state for tourism after Florida, and Myrtle Beach draws a lot of these visitors. Myrtle Beach is 98 miles north of Charleston and has a sixty-mile stretch of beaches called the "Grand Strand"); Myrtle Beach also has amusement parks that kids will enjoy. Note, however, that Myrtle Beach is a mecca for college spring break! Families may want to visit other times of the year, or at least check a hotel or resort carefully to make sure they won't be surrounded by springer breakers.

Orlando, Florida

If you're planning your spring break in Orlando, start withWalt Disney World -- a "world" the size of Boston, with four theme parks, two water parks, Downtown Disney entertainment zone, and twenty-two themed resorts. And you'll want to know about Universal Orlando which has the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in one of its two theme parks, plus three nearby resorts and the CityWalk entertainment zone. But there's also SeaWorld and Discovery Cove and Aquatica Water Park, and a chance to see performances by Cirque du Soleil and Blue Man Group...

Phoenix, Arizona

Locals as well as visitors love to take an easy getaway at these Arizona resorts that offer built-in fun for kids: giant waterslides, lazy rivers, novelty pools... The Arizona Grand Resort has a convenient location just 15 minutes from the Phoenix airport and a full-fledged water park with waterslides, wave pool, river float, and kiddie pool. Golf is a highlight too with a golf course right at the resort and a high-tech learning center. Guests can also do beautiful hikes or mountain biking in the adjacent 16,500 acre South Mountain Park/Preserve. Several other resorts in the area have water park features, including the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, with 1600 ft. lazy river and several unusual pools; the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess with 200-foot waterslides, dive-in movies, and a "Hangout" for teens; and the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch with a 2.5 acre water playground that has 10 pools and three-storey waterslides.

Quebec City

Quebec City is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and on the practical side has some exceedingly quaint places for hot chocolate and good meals, such as Le Cochon Dingue ("The Crazy Pig"). Don't worry about the language thing; those in the tourist trade speak English as well as French, and the Quebecois are known as a warm and "joie de vivre" type of people.
